Let me explain how it works: I am a full-time freelance journalist. Most places I write for pay little or nothing for my work. The Nation, for example, offers about $200 for a story that might take more than a week to report Buzzflash and Common Dreams pay nothing. I support my family by writing for business publications, which do pay reasonably well (though some of them are folding now as ad sales plunge). But all that writing for money eats up most of my available time, leaving almost nothing for ThisCantBeHappening.net. What I'd like to do is have the site generate sufficient support that I could devote full time to investigative reporting and digging out the news--the thing I'm good at. But to do that, I need your support. Even $5 a year--the price of a few cups of java, or about 43 cents a month-- from a few thousand of you, my regular readers, would do the trick.
